where to begin

Baby W. is now 4 weeks old. Time seems like it has flown by, but at the same time W. seems like he's been around forever. He's doing well, and getting fat. (which I think is delightful) He has had a couple issues that I don't remember Mini M. having... or maybe I've just blocked them from my memory. For a few days last week he decided that life would be much more exciting if he screamed inconsolably from 7 to 10 every night. Just about the point when I was going to lose my mind he decided he was bored with that and would insist on eating ever hour and a half. Just about at the point when I was about to lose my nips, he got over it. Now he is eating around every 2 1/2 hours, which is much more "do-able" for me. His newest ploy? Waking up ever 2 hours at night. Yep. We're having quite the party here at the "nighty" household.

It's funny with babies. When they're little, everything is a phase that only lasts for a few days or a week and then changes into another phase just about at the point when you are about to go absolutely insane. Hmm... hope this one changes soon, because I am veeery close to becoming a lunatic. (cue crazed frantic laugh, eye twitches and hair pulling) Other than that W. is a sweet little man. He is starting to smile and coo a bit.

In news other than babies... yes... I can talk about things other than babies, thankyouverymuch... This Friday is our anniversary. C.N. and I will have been married 5 years. I'm not sure what we'll be doing, seeing that we can't leave W. for very long. We'll probably just drop him and Mini off at C.N.'s parents and go out to eat somewhere near them. Want to know what I really want for our anniversary? I want a cake from the Home Bakery. For a few of our anniversaries we have had a replica of the top of our wedding cake made. Here's me on our 1st . Wow I looked young. But, alas the cake this year can not be. C.N. and I are trying to be thin, so we have cut out sugar and most carbs. We have been doing it for about a week now and I'm back to my normal weight. Yay. But I still want to lose another 10. So... the diet shall continue. Not much fun, especially when I look at that picture and realize that inside is a lemon cake with raspberry mousse filling. AGRAH! I'll just gently knaw on W's fat rolls and hopefully that will satisfy my craving for something sweet.

Baby and things.

So, things have been going well here. Life has been so busy lately. C.N.'s work is crazy and adjusting life to taking care of two kids is definitely an... adjustment. Mini M. is doing great as a big sister. She loves to kiss Baby all the time. I've been worried about not giving her as much attention as she was used to, but she is such a good little person and is (for the most part) happy and content.

Baby is doing great, even though he is always hungry...always. Going an 1 1/2 hours is a stretch for him... I know I have great boobs, but come on! Shouldn't that qualify as being obsessed??? :) Seriously though, some people might tut-tut about my feeding him on demand, but I'm not worried about it. I did the same thing with Mini M. then started her on more of a "schedule" around 6 weeks, and in no time she was eating every 3 hours and sleeping from 10/11pm to 5am. Now, that may not sound all that thrilling to those of you without children, but being able to sleep for a solid stretch like that is every mother of a newborn's dream. A very good thing is at least he has his night/days figured out. At night he'll sleep for a good 3/4 hours between feedings. All in all Baby W. is a sweet happy little man who, when isn't grunting has taken up a sort of squeal/trumpeting. Really- he sounds like a baby elephant. Very strange. But cute.

I have finally gotten used to all the boy differences. Girl diaper changing is so much easier. With boys there's so much "stuff" to clean around, and don't even get me started on the whole peeing thing. Every time I change his diaper and don't get peed on feels like a small victory. Also, no one ever told me his wiener had to be positioned a certain way when diapering. Come on now! How was I supposed to know that?? When he first came home he kept soaking himself all the time. It took me a couple of days to realize "things" had to be pointed downward, otherwise he'd pee right up through the top of his diaper, resulting in getting everything drenched. (Yes. I admit it, I'm a bit slow.) At least C.N. got a good laugh out of it. hardy har.

Look how cute my children are.

Good heavens it's been so long! So... as most of you know we finally had the baby (may 3rd)- And it was a boy! What a surprise. Mini Man is doing great, has an obsession with boobs (mine in particular) and grunts all. the. time. Funny, the differences between boys and girls. Mini M. never grunted. I keep thinking he's constipated because of it all, but seeing that he poo's about every hour I know he's not. So. That's all I have time for today. Someday soon I will fill you in on all the details of his birth- ok maybe not all the details, most of them. Until then I will try to satisfy your Mini Man cravings with some pictures. Enjoy.

40 weeks and.... nothing.

Humph. So here I am. Today is my due date, and nothing. For the past few months I have been getting weekly emails with pregnancy tips and updates on the baby's development. Today, my newsletter said, "Wow! You've done it! Congratulations on your new baby, now try to get some rest." Gee, thanks for the encouragement, except I haven't given birth yet. Way to make me feel like a freak of nature. Hey, I guess I should be grateful it didn't say how I really feel right now- "Today is your due date, knowing your dysfunctional body, you'll probably be pregnant for another 8 weeks. And, when you finally do go into labor, you'll give birth to a wrinkly, slightly over-baked 14 lb child with all it's teeth." Poo.

Mia had her 4th birthday a little over a week ago. I was going to invite all our and Mia's little friends, but thought it might be a bit too much for me to handle at this point, so we kept it a "small" affair, and just invited CN's family which brought the total head count to over 20. Even though it was a bit overwhelming for me, Mini M had the time of her life- so it was all worth it. I can't believe she's 4. The only letdown for her on her birthday was me telling her she still wasn't old enough to drive a car. For some reason she was fully convinced that once she turned 4 she would be old enough to drive. Ah well... guess life is full of disappointments.
